**Job Summary:**
Provides administrative and technical assistance. Performs various laboratory procedures with minimal technical supervision. Performs quality assurance and maintains equipment and records.
+ Performs laboratory procedures with minimal technical supervision.
+ Performs all duties of a medical technologist.
+ Troubleshoots procedural and technical problems and performs quality assurance activities related to test performance.
+ Maintains equipment and records.
+ Provides training, consulting or advice within laboratory.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology required.
+ Eligible for certification from a recognized national certifying organization or certification in laboratory specialty preferred.
**Complexity of Work:**
+ Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
+ Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
**Work Experience:**
+ For high-complexity CLIA laboratories: 3 years laboratory training or experience or both in high-complexity testing within the high-complexity subspecialty.
+ For moderate complexity CLIA laboratories: 2 years of laboratory training or experience or both in non-waived testing in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service.
+ For CLIA laboratory areas that are non-testing: 1 year of laboratory training or experience or both in designated laboratory area.
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope as required.
+ The ability to distinguish colors.
+ Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment.
+ May require frequent standing or lifting up to 25 pounds.
+ May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
